Frequently Asked Questions
✦ What is Escapism?
We are a group activity, an amusement park, a themed experience. You and your group have 1 hour to escape a room by decoding hints and solving puzzles. Teamwork is a must!
✦ Am I really locked in a room? What if I need to get out?
You will be in a room for 60 minutes until your team can uncover clues to help you successfully accomplish your mission to escape the room. We ask all participants to arrive at least 15 minutes early for check in process and briefing. If you request to abort the mission and decide to leave the room, just let your game master know and he/she will assist you out (Has not happened yet)
✦ Can I bring my phone with me?
(If you are a surgeon on call, in charge of a network or a mom leaving kids with a sitter we may make an exception) Nothing is allowed in the room except you. All your personal belongings will be left in a secured locker so you can be fully immersed and rely 100% on your brain. No google, no calling a friend…this is time to see what you are really made of. A sacred chance to rely fully on your instincts.
✦ Is this going to be scary?
We have no gratuitous scares, but the experience is designed to be suspenseful. Rooms that have parental guidance and age restrictions due to suspenseful nature.
✦ Will there be any jump scares or loud noises, strobe lighting?
There will not be any jump scares. For players sensitive to loud sounds, we can provide ear plugs upon request. Please ask the front desk for help, and we will try our best to accommodate your needs. If you are sensitive to lighting changes, strobe lights, darkness, please call us with any questions we can plan to adjust the game with 48 hour notice if possible.
✦ Is it hard to escape the room?
Our rooms are designed to focus on team building in which all participants can participate regardless of skill, age, and athletic ability. You will be provided 4 hints upon request. You can make it as easy or as hard as you would like. It’s all up to you and your team and how well you work together and when you chose to use your hints. Our goal is to make sure everyone is having a great time.

The Dungeon accommodates up to 4 players, The Attic up to 6 players, Gallery 3919 up to 8 players and with additional puzzles we can accommodate up to 16. Call to get more details on larger groups. History of Escapism
Escapism first opened our doors on the 24th of June in 2015. Having been the first puzzle room to open in Hillcrest, we started a spark of interest in escape games in the area. Over a year of service has gone by, and since then, we have participated in various events such as the IHeartRadio Music Festival and Pride 2015/2016.
Following the success of our Gallery 3919 room, we opened our second room, named The Attic, in November of 2015.
We have also become part of many of our customers’ histories as well, including a wedding proposal, birthday parties, family reunions and sorority pledge days.
The Brain behind the game, the creator, and the Puzzle Master of Escapism. Tangerine (yes, that is her real name) opened Escapism as an outlet for her creativity. She individually designs each of our rooms with extreme precision and care. The rooms are then built and alpha tested with the help of her loyal crew of Game Masters before they are Beta tested with carefully chosen volunteers. This ensures that the rooms are diverse enough and feasible for all potential players. The result? One of the highest praised puzzle rooms in San Diego. Beautifully engineered escape rooms await your team to be challenged and delighted with. As you can see, she has earned her “Master” title through dedication to her craft.
The Game Masters
Our game masters are not only a unified work team, but they are also a family. Each and every one of our staff put in 110% in order to ensure that all of our customers receive the experience and hospitality they deserve.
